A big thank you to the funders and grant providers who helped make these projects possible. Your support has allowed us to bring Deaf and hearing worlds together through shared experiences, language, and culture.
🧡 Ngā mihi nui – we couldn’t have done it without you.
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve received funding to support 10–15 CODAs to attend upcoming NZSL4U camps across Aotearoa!
Thanks to this grant, Kiwi CODAs can join one of our fun, supportive camps in Christchurch, Hamilton, or Wellington — a great chance to connect, learn NZSL, and celebrate their identity.
Ngā mihi to our funder for making this possible!
Monthly Auckland Youth CODA Group Project (Feb 2021–Dec 2023)
A huge thank you to the generous grant that made this important programme possible. From February 2021 to December 2023, CODA youth aged 11 to 18 from across the Auckland region came together monthly to connect, build friendships, and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
This programme also supported CODA youth to learn more about their identity, take pride in their unique culture, and celebrate their connection to the sign language and the Deaf community.
We are truly grateful to the funders for their kind hearts in supporting the cost of activities and food. Special thanks also to iSign isign.co.nz/ for providing CODA interpreters throughout the two years.

Winter School Holiday CODA Programme – July 2015
This fun and engaging programme for CODA children was held during the July 2015 school holidays, proudly funded by the Deaf Development Fund (DDF). It offered a chance for CODA tamariki to connect, learn NZSL, and celebrate their identity through activities and cultural sharing.

2nd NZ Deaf Parents with Hearing Children Camp – Christchurch, January 2012
Our second national camp for Deaf parents with hearing children (CODAs) took place in Christchurch in January 2012.
This special event brought families together for a weekend of connection, cultural pride, and fun — strengthening the bond between Deaf parents and their hearing children.
A huge thank you to the Jetstar Flying Start Winner Programme for funding this initiative, and to Deaf Aotearoa for their support in making it happen.
In May 2011, we held the first-ever conference in Aotearoa for Deaf parents raising hearing children (CODAs).
This groundbreaking event created a safe space for Deaf parents to come together, share experiences, and explore the unique journey of raising hearing children in a Deaf household.
A milestone moment for our community — and just the beginning of many more CODA-focused initiatives to come.
https://lumotv.co.uk/watch/coda-proud - CODA Experience Video – 8 Minutes
This is one of my goddaughters (daughter of my childhood friend) in the UK. She is a CODA and shares her personal experience growing up with her sister and Deaf parents. A powerful 30-minute video worth watching.
Unfortunately, there are currently no upcoming CODA events in Aotearoa or Auckland due to lack of funding. We have applied for many grants, but sadly, all have been declined. It’s a really challenging time at the moment.
Despite this, we are incredibly proud of what has been achieved for our NZ and Auckland CODA community over the years — please scroll down to view our past CODA events and projects.
We want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible support of:
Claire Harker – Auckland’s Proud CODA Champion
Judith Mason – Grateful for her past support and commitment to the CODA kaupapa.
Ava Buzzard - Proud of her two CODA grandchildren and her grandson, Damoniao Agnew, proudly attended KODAWest Camp in California, a life-changing experience that connects CODAs from around the world.
Lorriane McQuigg - for her ongoing support and contribution to CODA kaupapa.
Molly Brown - Special Thanks to Molly Brown (USA CODA Leader)
Many thanks to Molly Brown for all her valuable advice, guidance, and encouragement. Molly is a respected CODA leader from the USA and founder of the USA CODA Camps, which have been running successfully for over 25 years. We are incredibly grateful for her support and recommendations. We hope one day she can visit Aotearoa New Zealand — if funding becomes available — to connect with our growing CODA community here.
And many others who have been involved in different CODA projects across the years – your time, energy, and aroha have made a real difference
If you or someone you know is in a position to sponsor or support future CODA events, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We welcome any kind of support to help continue this important work.
